How Digital Therapy Works

Digital therapy offers a structured, evidence-based approach to treating various mental health conditions, seamlessly integrated into clinical practice. Healthcare providers play a central role in identifying suitable patients, referring them to specific therapy programs, and supporting them throughout their journey. Patients engage with tailored weekly modules designed to address their unique needs, such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, insomnia, PTSD, panic disorder, or bipolar disorder.

The therapy focuses on fostering self-awareness, emotional regulation, and practical skills through interactive content, including videos, audiobooks, therapeutic tasks, exercises, and reflective activities. Each program is customised to the condition it targets: managing depressive symptoms, improving sleep behaviors, reframing anxious thoughts, enhancing focus for ADHD, or developing coping strategies for panic and PTSD. Patients gain insights into their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions while completing daily tasks that help them apply learned techniques in real-life situations

Therapists monitor patients’ progress through a secure digital platform, providing regular feedback, answering questions, and ensuring adherence. They also identify risks or the need for alternative support when necessary. The collaborative approach combines independent activities with professional guidance, empowering patients to regain control over their mental well-being in a convenient and accessible way.

The Course and Idea of Digital Mental Therapy

Digital therapy begins after you, as a healthcare provider, identify a suitable patient, make a referral, and confirm the therapy access. As a provider, you will support your patients through this structured program, acting as their therapist and guiding them in managing their symptoms. This evidence-based treatment typically lasts two to four months.

The therapy is designed to empower patients through independent activities they can complete at their convenience, fostering self-engagement, awareness, and a sense of control over their emotions and lives. These activities are delivered via a secure digital platform, including informational content, videos, and therapeutic exercises.

As a healthcare provider, you will monitor patient progress through weekly modules, covering topics such as identifying and challenging negative beliefs, managing unhelpful thought patterns, improving emotional regulation, building self-compassion, and developing practical coping strategies. Patients work through typically one topic a week. These sessions encourage reflection on their challenges and the connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Patients will also apply what they have learned through practical daily exercises recorded in the diary section of the application.

Your role involves providing regular feedback, commenting on patients’ tasks, and answering their questions remotely. You will also identify if patients are at risk and need additional treatment or alternative support. You’ll communicate with your patients throughout the therapy via secure messaging, ensuring they feel supported and guided during their journey. Integrating this digital solution into your practice allows you to offer an accessible, effective treatment option tailored to your patient’s needs.

Key Considerations for Healthcare Providers Supporting Patients in iCBT:

For patients to benefit from online therapy, ensure they meet the following prerequisites:

  • Motivation: Patients should demonstrate a willingness to engage with new strategies and techniques for managing their condition.
  • Commitment: Patients must dedicate at least two weekly hours to complete therapeutic exercises and activities over several weeks.
  • Technology Access: Ensure patients have a smartphone or tablet with a reliable Internet connection to access the therapy platform.

Additionally, young individuals aged 16 and older will benefit from digital therapy, provided you determine that this approach suits their specific needs and circumstances. Your role in assessing their readiness and guiding them through this process is crucial to their success.

How to Get Started with HealthFOX iCBT

As a healthcare provider, you play a critical role in identifying suitable candidates for iCBT. Patients can be referred from various care settings, primary healthcare settings, local clinics, occupational health services, or student healthcare programs.

Once referred, you, as the therapist, will ascertain whether patients are suitable and can then allow access to patients who will embark on a structured, therapist-supported program guided by professionals like yourself. You will gain access to an intuitive digital platform to monitor patient progress, provide personalised feedback, and support patients effectively throughout their treatment journey.

By incorporating digital therapy into your practice, you’ll empower patients with an accessible, scalable, and clinically validated solution to improve their mental health outcomes.

HealthFOX makes it simple for healthcare providers to integrate iCBT into their practice. We begin by setting up a digital clinic on our secure platform, complete with two-factor authentication, to ensure professionals can log in safely. Next, we provide comprehensive training on using the platform. At the same time, our clinical partners deliver specialised training on iCBT, including the approach and best practices for providing therapy online. Once the setup and training are complete, you can identify patients suited for digital treatment and support them on their journey toward improved mental health.
